Welcome
The Centre for Clinical Studies (CCS) at the Mater Mothers' builds on the previous initiatives and the work of the Mater Perinatal Epidemiology Unit that has resulted in a National and International reputation with respect to Cochrane Reviews,
Development and Implementation of Clinical Practice Guidelines,
and the conduct of primary perinatal clinical research with a
focus on Epidemiological research in the area of perinatal
death and stillbirth.
The CCS collaborates with a number of
National and International organisations including: The
WOMBAT (Women WOMen and Babies Wellbeing: Action through Trials)
Collaboration; the IMPACT (Interdisciplinary Maternal Perinatal
Trials Network); the Perinatal Society of Australia and New
Zealand's Perinatal Mortality Group; The Australian
and New Zealand Neonatal Network's PEGS (Practice Evidence Gap
Strategy) supported by the National Institute of Clinical
Studies and the Australasian Cochrane Centre. The centre is
currently conducting the largest NHMRC funded epidemiological
study into stillbirth prevention across three Sates of
Australia. Internationally, the Centre is collaborating
with the International Stillbirth Alliance to reduce stillbirth
and improve care for families who have a stillborn baby.
Vision Statement of the Centre
The Vision of the Centre for Clinical Studies is to further the National and International reputation as a Centre of excellence in evidence based
maternity and newborn health care.
Goals and Objectives of the Centre
To improve health outcomes for mothers and babies by:
- Monitoring and reporting of health outcomes
- Supporting and conducting high quality clinical research
- Promoting best clinical practice
This is achieved by:
- developing high quality research initiatives based on the findings of systematic reviews and outcomes analysis
- facilitate the development and conduct of well designed clinical research
- acting as a resource for health care providers and consumers on evidence based care and health outcomes
- managing the conduct of clinical adverse event monitoring for mothers’ and newborns
- development of evidence based guidelines including the conduct systematic reviews of the evidence for health care
- conducting systematic reviews of the evidence for health care interventions for the Cochrane Collaboration
